Alcohol Prevention and Treatment Programs
Alcohol and substance abuse are serious concerns in college campuses that need much attention. Since drinking and parties are closely associated with the college experience, most students fall into the peer pressure of drinking. Often times social drinking can gradually turn into substance abuse. For this reason many college campuses offer multiple resource to the students that this may concern. Due to the seriousness of the matter many cities have budgets offered to the schools for such programs. New York City government has offered a 2.5 million dollar funding to 20 colleges to provide these facilities. Most schools including The City College of New York receives $125,000 annually to help prevent and reduce substance abuse.
Prevention and treatment programs can be found through many resources. There are multiple prevention programs offered to students in almost all schools. At the City College of New York, the counseling center and the student health services offer help to those that are in need and reach out them. Like this many college campuses offer such resources as well. In the instance these facilities are not available, there are multiple walk-in clinics and 24/7 confidential hotlines are available. A list of these references can be found under the resources. In terms of treatments, detoxes and medications can be used and more information can be provided by the primary healthcare. Also therapy sessions by going to a specialized clinical psychologist can be another option as well.
